Suspend play for thirty minutes and take shelter immediately.ī. When thunder is heard within 30 seconds of a visible lightning strike, or a cloud-to-ground lightning bolt is seen, the thunderstorm is close enough to strike your location with lightning. Develop criteria for suspension and resumption of play:Ī. If the contest cannot be resumed to completion according to NFHS rules and regulations due to a situation beyond the control of the home game administration on the same day, then reschedule and complete the contest on the next available date according to NFHS rules and regulations.ģ. Delay the contest until the home game administration resolves the incident, and then continue the contest until completed by NFHS rules and regulations.Ģ. If a situation occurs that temporarily stops or delays a contest, please follow the procedures listed below:ġ. If a situation occurs during a contest that causes the contest to be stopped while the situation is addressed, then the contest is expected to be completed as soon as the situation is resolved. The AHSAA expects all contests to be completed according to the rules and regulations of the AHSAA and the NFHS. The resumption of play the next morning, if necessary, may not commence prior to 7 a.m. Additionally, no increment of play that begins prior to midnight, may continue past 12.30 a.m. Henceforth, no athletic contest during AHSAA championship play shall begin a new increment of play (period, inning, set, etc.) after 12 a.m.The AHSAA also recognizes the importance of protecting the health and safety of its student-athletes, coaches, fans, officials, and umpires. The Alabama High School Athletic Association (AHSAA) recognizes that inclement weather may occasionally impact athletic contests during its Championship Programs.Information on any changes regarding AHSAA playoff scheduling will be posted on the home page of the AHSAA website ( _ In the event that schools remain open, participants and teams shall be expected to play the contests on the scheduled dates.ĥ. The failure of a team or individuals to participate would result in a forfeit.Ĥ. Multi-team events: If a revised schedule adversely affects the next round, the event may be played according to the original schedule. The failure of a team to participate would result in a forfeit.ģ. Two-team contests: Postponed contests must be re-scheduled on the next day unless the next round of the playoff is adversely affected. NOTE: For purposes of this policy, “closure,” “closed” or “school closing” shall mean that the local authorities of the interruption cause or Board of Education/Governing Board has cancelled all high school classes and school-sponsored extracurricular activities for a minimum of one calendar day due to a specific concern.Ģ. Any part of a revised schedule may need modification. In the event of school closings within two calendar days of scheduled playoff contests, the AHSAA administrative staff, in collaboration with the Central Board and playoff event personnel, will attempt to delay or reschedule the playoff contests without adversely affecting the next round of the playoff schedule. This policy shall be observed for all AHSAA-sponsored championship playoff events.ġ. The AHSAA Office must be notified of any changes to contests. Necessary decisions concerning any circumstances that are not covered by this policy will be left to the discretion of the AHSAA administrative staff and the Central Board of Control. This policy, adopted by the AHSAA Central Board of Control, will be followed when championship play is interrupted or threatened by public health/safety concerns, acts of God or other uncontrollable and unforeseen circumstances.
